My closets are full of clutter: buttons, cleaning products, dryer sheets, and a 6 month supply of toothpaste, to name a few. While I know that I will need all of this stuff eventually, wouldn’t it be great to put it to work now?
With this in mind, I have whipped up some tips and tricks that can repurpose old everyday items into things that are new and interesting. Not only will this clean up your closet space, it will organize your life and provide some beauty tips, too!
Buttons. About a year ago I got a great deal on some buttons. I bought a very large bag of several miscellaneous styles for a small fee of $3, which included legit freeshipping all the way to my home in Santa Cruz, CA. Perfect. Now I know that I need many of them just in case, but they’ve been sitting untouched since the day I bought them.
Surfing the Internet, I discovered a perfect use for extra buttons: use them to keep pairs of earrings together in your jewelry box! The same method can be applied for brooches and pins. If this inspires you further to get crafty, you can even make string bracelets or necklaces out of a variety of button styles and colors.
Dryer Sheets. Everyone has dryer sheets lying around the house. Did you know just how many purposes they can serve outside of doing laundry? If you don’t have time to jump in the shower, dryer sheets can double as a dry shampoo that will tame frizz and fly-aways, and improve the way your hair smells. Mosquito bites? You can rub dryer sheets on your arms and legs to keep the mosquitoes away! Another practical use of dryer sheets is stuffing them inside shoes that need a little bit of TLC in the fragrance department. They absorb undesirable odor and keep your shoes smelling clean and fresh.
Shimmer Eye Shadow. If you’re a quality and budget conscious shopper, you’ll appreciate the fact that there are websites like FreeShipping.com that work with a lot of online cosmetic retailers with high consumer ratings. While shimmering eye shadow and bronzer serve their obvious purposes, they also work to conceal gray hairs in between salon visits. Ironing. Are you in a hurry, or don’t have enough time to fully iron a shirt? A flat iron for the hair works great on a blouse with just a couple of creases, or in between the buttons on a regular button down. Another trick that might work well with certain fabrics is hanging your clothes in the bathroom while you’re taking a steaming hot bath or shower. The steam will help remove the wrinkles on your clothes, without any effort on your part at all!
